A biography is a kind of narrative that
deals with the life of a person.
Classical biographies are about the lives of
popular figures, national heroes or
celebrities

AUTOBIOGRAPHY
It is a kind of biography that centers on the life
of the narrator himself/herself.
The term autobiography is derived from the
Greek words autos (which means “self”), bios
(which means “life”), and graphien (which
means “to write).

AUTOBIOGRAPHY
It is also a form of writing that is about
one’s – that is, the narrator’s own life.
It does not simply list down or relate events
chronologically.
It borrows some of literary strategies and
devices of fiction, such as characterization
and plot.

The Autobiography shares certain
characteristics with other types of creative
nonfiction, primarily its being in the first person.
Unlike the personal narrative usually focuses
on a single event or episode.
It deals with chain of events and covers a
longer period of time. Indicating information
such as dates and places.

• This form of writing had a rather long tradition
in the Philippines such as our heroes Jose
Rizal, Apolinario Mabini and etc., they wrote
their brief accounts of their lives. In more
recent times, politicians, athletes, and showbiz
personalities have tried their hand at writing
their life stories, usually with the assistance of
more adept storytellers
